Case Study – Bernie’s Story From Working With Us

Posted on September 9, 2019October 14, 2020

In this case study, Bernie discusses his journey with Dr. Shelton of Shelton Movement and Performance, and how they worked together to get him back to doing what mattered to him, like being able to sit down without pain, as well as getting down to kneel at church. What’s wonderful about this story is the excitement Bernie shows for his experience, after realizing that the status quo of taking pills and getting injections weren’t the only way to recover from pain.

Q: What made you decide to work with Dr. Shelton?

A: I came here because I wanted to get this thing fixed in my back. I wasn’t sure what in the world that was and then I met Dr. Shelton and he told me what we would do and everything. And I liked that. I mean, I knew exactly what he was going be doing and everything. So I felt good about that.

Q: What kind of pain were you experiencing before physical therapy?

A: I had a hell of a lot of pain when I came here, and that was four months ago. And, uh, I thought, boy, if I can just get rid of this thing, I remember I had to fill out all the papers and everything and I, when I was doing that, I would just think I want to get rid of this pain and…. it didn’t take that long…. the first treatment he did help tremendously. And then he told me what I could do at home. It was just an education for me.

Q: What was the best part of working with Dr. Shelton?

A: The best thing about physical therapy with Dr. Shelton was his manner. He was very easy going guy, he jokes around, and he doesn’t come across as a stuffy doctor. It’s nice because that relaxes you too.

Q: Who would you recommend come see Dr. Shelton?

A: You tell anybody that’s got any pain anywhere, whatever it is, it can be helped. I wasn’t quite sure. I didn’t think, to be honest with you, I was skeptical about physical therapy. You get so used to having to take pills or ointments or some kind of thing like that. I guess I kind of liked that and when the doctor gave me the ball, you know, and that was funny because I thought what the heck is this ball going to do, you know? And it was amazing! I mean, it was miraculous really that it worked. Anybody that might be a little skeptical about physical therapy, I would recommend it.

What an awesome story! This is just one of the many examples of the truly amazing people that we are fortunate enough to work with at Shelton Movement and Performance.

Are you struggling with your own skepticisms towards physical therapy? Maybe you’ve tried something like physical therapy or chiropractic care in the past, only to be let down by the results. Maybe you’ve been told by a medical professional or friends/family that pain is just something you should expect with aging (strangely enough I hear this most from people between 40-60 years old and NOT people over 65). If you’re tired of the “status quo” treatment of your pain with pills, rest, and waiting 6 weeks to go back and get the same advice, here’s what you can do:
